Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about the SkinBelow Micro-Infusion Pen.

The pen and how it works

What does the SkinBelow Pen actually do?

The pen has 20 ultra-fine titanium needles at 0.25mm depth. When you press it against clean skin, it creates temporary micro-channels through the surface barrier. You fill the pen with serum beforehand, so actives enter through those channels — bypassing the dead cell layer that normally blocks absorption.

How is this different from a dermaroller?

A dermaroller drags needles across skin, which creates micro-tears. The SkinBelow Pen stamps — press and release — which is gentler and more precise. You also fill the pen with serum first, so absorption happens simultaneously as channels open. Rollers do not deliver serum at the same time.

Is it the same as clinic treatments?

Same mechanism — micro-channel delivery. Clinical microneedling goes deeper (1–2mm) for collagen induction. AquaGold facials go to 0.6mm. SkinBelow is optimised at 0.25mm for serum delivery with zero downtime. The clinic charges for the professional, the equipment, and the appointment. You do the same technique in 60 seconds.

Safety and suitability

I am nervous about needles. Will it hurt?

0.25mm is below the pain threshold for almost everyone. The most common description is mild warmth or slight tingling. If you feel discomfort, you are pressing too hard — ease off. Patch test on your inner forearm first if you are cautious.

My skin is sensitive. Can I use this?

At 0.25mm, yes — with care. Start with 2x per week rather than 3x. Avoid use on active breakouts, open wounds, eczema, rosacea flare-ups, or any active infection. The included serum contains no fragrance or alcohol. Patch test on your inner forearm for 24 hours before facial use.

Is it suitable for perimenopause or post-menopause skin?

Yes. This is exactly what the pen was designed for. After 40, oestrogen receptor decline closes the pathways that allow actives to reach the dermis. Micro-infusion bypasses that barrier entirely — delivering serums to living tissue where repair actually happens. Women in perimenopause and post-menopause typically see the most noticeable results.

Can I use it if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

We recommend checking with your GP or midwife before using any new skincare device during pregnancy or breastfeeding. The caution is mainly around what serums you use through it — actives absorbed more deeply may not be appropriate during pregnancy.

Results

How soon will I see results?

Most people notice a difference after the first session — skin feels fuller and more hydrated. Visible structural improvement (lines softening, texture evening) typically shows from week 2–3. Week 4–8 is when most customers describe the most significant change. Use it 3x per week consistently — inconsistent use produces inconsistent results.

I have tried everything. Why will this be different?

This is not a different product. It is a different delivery method. Whatever you have been using has been sitting on the surface — not because it does not work, but because your skin absorption pathways changed after 40. The pen bypasses that barrier. The actives you are already using can now reach the tissue where they are effective.

Using the pen

Can I use my own serums?

Yes. The pen is compatible with any water-based serum. Hyaluronic acid, Vitamin C, peptides, niacinamide — all excellent choices. Avoid oil-based products (they do not absorb efficiently through micro-channels). The included serum is formulated specifically for 0.25mm delivery, but your existing serums work too.

How do I clean the pen?

After each use: rinse the needle head under warm running water, then spray with isopropyl alcohol (70%) and allow to air-dry. Store the head cap on when not in use. Replace needle heads every 8–10 sessions, or immediately if you notice any damage. Replacement heads are included in the box.

How long does the pen last?

The pen body is lifetime use. Needle heads should be replaced every 8–10 sessions. The included serum (30ml) lasts 4–6 weeks at 3 sessions per week. Monthly serum refills are available separately at £19.99/month and include 4 replacement heads.

When is the best time to use it?

Evening is best. Skin repair runs overnight and micro-channels close within hours. Use on clean, completely dry skin. Avoid AHAs, BHAs, or active acids for 24 hours after a session. Always wear SPF the following morning — newly delivered actives increase sun sensitivity temporarily.
